A barcode scanner for the WooCommerce admin: scan with a phone or webcam and the product opens on its Inventory tab, or count stock with plus and minus buttons.

== Description ==

Open Products on your phone, tap "📷 Scan barcode" next to Add New Product, and hold a barcode in front of the camera. It reads by itself, with no shutter button, beeps, and opens the product with the Inventory tab open and the stock box selected. A variation opens on its Variations tab with its own stock box selected.

= What it does =

* **Scans with the camera** on iPhone (Safari), Android (Chrome) and a desktop webcam. It uses the browser's built-in reader where there is one and a bundled open-source reader everywhere else, running off the page so the camera view never stutters.
* **Finds the product by SKU** in a fraction of a second, on products and variations. It also tries the other forms of the same number: UPC-A and EAN-13, a short UPC-E opened up, GTIN-14, leading zeros and capitals.
* **Can search more fields** after the SKU: WooCommerce's GTIN, UPC, EAN or ISBN field, your own custom fields, and the fields of popular barcode plugins.
* **Is instant on slow data.** Each phone keeps a small copy of your codes and updates it only when a product changes, so a match needs no waiting; the store confirms in the background.
* **Counts stock.** A card with plus and minus buttons and Save, the camera stays on, scan the same item again to add one.
* **Takes USB and Bluetooth scanners** anywhere on the Products screens, and a typed, pasted or photographed code.
* **Handles problems kindly.** Camera blocked, no camera, camera in use, or a page that is not https: each has a plain message and the exact steps to fix it.
* **Works from the home screen.** Factorize → Scan can be added to a phone's home screen and opens full screen.

Nothing runs on the storefront, and nothing leaves your site: the reader is bundled and loaded from your own server.

= Works standalone, better together =

Factorize is a modular WooCommerce toolkit built on a real liquidation store. Every plugin works alone. Factorize Scan registers under the Operations tab of the shared Factorize menu.

= Third-party software =

Bundled in assets/reader/ and loaded locally: zxing-wasm 3.1.5 (MIT) and ZXing-C++ (Apache License 2.0). Both allow commercial use. Full notices: THIRD-PARTY-LICENSES.txt.

== Installation ==

1. Upload the `factorize-scan` folder to `/wp-content/plugins/` (or install the zip through Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin), then activate it. WooCommerce must be active.
2. Open Factorize → Scan on your phone. Use your live store address that starts with https:// — phones only allow the camera on secure pages.
3. Tap Start scanning and allow the camera when asked.
4. Optional: add Factorize → Scan to your home screen (Share → Add to Home Screen on iPhone, ⋮ → Add to Home screen on Android).

There is nothing to set up: the defaults work as they are. Settings are in Factorize → Scan → Settings.

== Frequently Asked Questions ==

= Does the camera work on my test site? =

Only on addresses that start with https:// (and on localhost). On other addresses the scanner explains this and offers the type-or-paste box and a "take a photo of the barcode" button, which work everywhere.

= Where must the barcode number be saved? =

In the SKU by default. If your barcodes are in WooCommerce's GTIN field, a UPC plugin's field or a custom field, Settings tells the scanner where to look.

= Will it change my stock by itself? =

No. Opening a product changes nothing. In Count stock mode, stock changes only when you press Save (or scan another product after changing the first).

= Which phones work? =

iPhone and iPad with Safari (iOS 14.3 or newer), Android with Chrome, and computers with a webcam in Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari.

= What happens to my data if I uninstall? =

The settings, the cached code list and each person's recent-scans list are removed. Products and stock are never touched.

== Changelog ==

= 1.0.1 =
* Fix: "The scanner could not load its reader" and "Take a photo" doing nothing: 1.0.0 was uploaded without its reader files. They now ship, and the reader has three ways to load.
* Removed the zoom slider.
* Small printed labels read much better: full camera sharpness, an enlarged centre pass, and a tip when nothing reads.

= 1.0.0 =
* First release.
